OUR WHIDBEY VOLLEYBALL CULTURE

We are a small community and a very small club, but we have a strong commitment to the following facets of our club. These are things we’d like to foster and cultivate in our club and greater community.

A POSITIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

It is our goal to find and develop coaches who are dedicated to teaching our athletes using methodologies and strategies that are positive and conducive to developing the individual and the team.

A COMPETITIVE PLAYING ENVIRONMENT

To be competitive, we must expect a high level of commitment from our players if we expect a high level of commitment from our coaches, which we do. This doesn’t just mean attending practices and tournaments, it means communication and respect between the players, parents, and coaches. To be competitive, it is the responsibility of the coach to put a combination of players on the court that have demonstrated teamwork, improvement, composure, and competitiveness. Playing time is EARNED, not paid for by your club dues. The opportunity to practice and to become a developed and improved player is what your club dues pay for.

ATHLETES ARE CHALLENGED TO LEARN, IMPROVE AND ACHIEVE

It is up to the individual athlete to put in the time, work, and effort to become a better volleyball player. We want our players to become the best player AND teammate that they can be.

COMPETE REGIONALLY

We want to compete regionally. We are a small club, but that also offers advantages of focusing our efforts on our 4-5 teams, not 15-20 teams. Maybe we don’t win Regionals next season, or the season after that, but maybe in 4 or 5 seasons. If we develop our young athletes early and consistently, this can happen. At Whidbey Volleyball Club, we are focused on developing a whole athlete. Life lessons are learned in a team environment. We treat everyone - parents, teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials with dignity and respect.

OUR CLUB’S COMMITMENT

Encouraging and nurturing a positive learning environment that we described earlier. Providing as many opportunities to play on the island that we can - club teams, indoor & outdoor tournaments, open gyms, private tutoring, camps, and clinics. A partnership with The Functional Training Studio for strength and conditioning training to provide training outside of the gym with experienced trainers. https://www.thefunctionaltrainingstudio.com

Dedication to recruiting experienced coaches and provide training. Focus on the development of our coaches and players. Facilitate communication between parents, players, and coaches Communication about practice attendance is a MUST Hold players accountable for their commitment to their team For our multi-sport athletes - each head coach will require a copy of their HS playing schedule when they are received Collaborative practices between similar age group teams to provide a competitive practice. Offer a more challenging tournament schedule for our club teams. Offer fundraising opportunities to help with club dues for families that need it.
