The Salish Sea School is a nonprofit marine education organization based in Anacortes, Washington, dedicated to connecting people of all ages with the wildlife, waters, and ecosystems of the Salish Sea through hands-on learning, exploration, and stewardship. We offer outdoor education programs, summer camps, family activities, wildlife tours, school field trips, research experiences, and community events designed to inspire curiosity and deepen connections with the natural world. Whether children are exploring tide pools, searching for marine mammals, learning about seabirds, participating in citizen science, or setting foot on a remote island for the first time, our programs encourage discovery, adventure, and a sense of responsibility for the marine environment.
Our popular summer camps provide immersive experiences for children and teens ages 6–18, with themes ranging from orcas and marine wildlife to puffin conservation, island exploration, and hands-on marine research. Throughout the year, we also offer family programs, naturalist courses, educational cruises, low-tide beach explorations, and opportunities for community members to engage in meaningful conservation and stewardship projects. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we believe every child should have the opportunity to experience the wonder of the Salish Sea. Through partnerships with schools, scientists, local organizations, and community supporters, we work to reduce barriers to outdoor learning and create accessible opportunities for people from all backgrounds. At The Salish Sea School, we believe that meaningful experiences in nature foster curiosity, confidence, environmental stewardship, and lifelong connections to the sea. Our goal is not only to teach people about the Salish Sea, but to inspire them to care for it and become active participants in its future.
